  • Introduction
The Second International Conference on Case Writing was organised by CWAM on November 3 & 4, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur. The co-organisers were Open University Malaysia (OUM) and the Graduate School of Management (GSM), Universiti Putra Malaysia. The theme of the conference was: Case Writing in Action: The Underlying Dynamics of the Case Method.

The conference reflected CWAM’s strong commitment to continue encouraging and getting more people involved to produce more quality local case studies for training and management purposes. The increase in the inventories of good local cases would ultimately have a positive effect on the overall human resource capital development in organisations. Several public and private sector organisations had been actively involved in organising case writing workshops to train case writers and trainers as part of the process of developing local case studies in the country.

The conference was aimed at bringing together case writing experts and practitioners to share their respective experiences in case writing and case teaching with the conference participants. It was hoped that a network of case writers and case practitioners would be established to strengthen the use of the case method for teaching and learning purposes. The use of technology in case development and case teaching was an added dimension to the future of case development in the country.

The keynote speaker was Professor I.M. Pandey, Professor of Finance from the University of Delhi, India. Then other speakers included Professor Dr. T.K. Mukherjee, Professor at the Open University Malaysia; Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Muda, Professor and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM); Mr. Mano Maniam, management trainer, founder member and past Deputy President of CWAM; Dr. David Asirvatham, the Director for Centre for Information Technology at University Malaya; and Professor Dr. Zainal Abidin Mohamed, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia and President of CWAM.
